The airline stated the decision regarding Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport is a result of its plans to close its base operations in Burbank.
Avelo Airlines announced Monday it will exit Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport altogether, effective Aug. 11.
The decision is a result of the airline’s plans to close its base operations at Hollywood Burbank Airport later this year, and does not pertain to the airline’s contract flying deportation flights for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Avelo spokeswoman Madison Glassman.
Rather, “Avelo’s West Coast operations have not produced the results necessary to continue our presence there,” she said.
Avelo on Aug. 12 will reduce its Burbank operation from two aircraft to one aircraft before leaving altogether on Dec. 2, according to the airline.
Avelo had kept five flights at STS after shuttering its base operations at the facility on May 1. Those flights were to Burbank, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Bend/Redmond, Oregon, and Kalispell, Montana.
The Business Journal is awaiting comment from Airport Manager Jon Stout.
